Behind The Track: Mirror Bay

Mirror Bay is the place inside your mind you visit when you finally stop running from yourself.

The song begins with me standing alone in front of a mirror.
At first, I’m just looking at my reflection.
But the longer I stare, the stranger it becomes.
The person staring back at me looks exactly like me but somehow knows everything I’ve tried to hide. Every insecurity. Every mistake. Every version of myself I’ve abandoned.

The anxiety. The memories. The things I tell everyone I’m fine about.
The mirror becomes Mirror Bay a strange psychological place where my reflection lives.
I realize that the reflection isn't my enemy.
It's me.
It's the part of myself that has been waiting for me to stop judging it.
The reflection begins showing me different versions of myself the scared kid, the person who overthinks everything, the person who feels like they're never enough, the person who pretends everything is okay and the version of me that still wants to heal.
Instead of smashing the mirror or looking away, I finally stand there and ask
Who are you?
And the reflection answers without speaking:
I'm everything you refuse to see.
That becomes the turning point.
I realize healing isn't about destroying the person in the mirror.
It's about recognizing them.
The final part of the song is me looking into the mirror again but this time, I don't see an enemy.
I see myself.
The reflection isn't disappearing.
I'm finally seeing it clearly.
The deeper meaning
Mirror Bay is a metaphor for confronting your own mind.
The bay represents a body of water something that reflects the sky, the world and you. But water can also become distorted when it's disturbed.
Your reflection changes depending on what's happening underneath.
Just like anxiety.
When your mind is calm, you can see yourself clearly.
When your mind is chaotic, the reflection becomes distorted.
You were never fighting the reflection.
You were fighting the way you saw yourself.
And that's the heart of Mirror Bay

Sometimes the monster in the mirror isn't there to hurt you. It's there because you've forgotten how to look at yourself with compassion.
